I don't know what kind of charities you have where you are, but what I do is sponsor a child through World Vision. I think that is a great cause because through World Vision the child and their family get help with their basic live needs and education. It is a monthly commitment, but I believe it is totally worth it.

I suggest Manna House, Inc., at 435 E 25th Street, Baltimore MD 21218 (telephone 410-889-3298; website mannahouseinc.org). This organization is run by a wonderful Executive Director, Esther Reaves. They have a soup drop-in center, housing assistance, counselling, meals, etc. One local landlord even donated the use of an apartment for transitional housing for the homeless!

This is a tough one. Usually I support charities that have something to do with me personally in some fashion. Therefore, the three I'd select from concern diabetes, cancer, and heart disease. If I could only pick one, I'd probably pick cancer, since it's the most enigmatic.

You know I could name a number of charities that need your donation, but why not donate to a charity in your own community.

If you have your heart set on us choosing for you then I'd have to say Hugs & Hope.

I know all too well what it is like to stand by and watch a child battle a life threatening illness.

In 1992, my daughter Katie was born with a rare heart disease. She underwent heart surgery at the age of five weeks. Sadly, she did not make the operation.

"The Hugs & Hope Club for Sick Kids was created by Marsha Jordan in October 2000, as a ministry of encouragement for children battling critical illness. Every month Hugs & hope features new stories and photos of sick children on their website. Visitors and volunteers pray for, encourage, and send these children cheery postal mail (a.k.a."happy mail"). Volunteers also sponsor many special projects to brighten the lives of the children on a regular basis! "

Visit hugsandhope.org and make a sick child's Christmas a little brighter.

I believe in charity totally. One the best things is, to ask your local welfare person. They are usually found in the local food pantry. They can help you find local people who really need help. They usually know exactly what they need.
Here there is no administration, you get what they want and give it to them. Most of the time, it is anonymous.

I'm not sure about what charities you guys have out there, and I don't actually try to outdo myself every year.

Still, I've been supporting two kids from World Vision for some 20 years. I think they do a great job. Also, because my son used to have seizures when he was a baby, I have always supported the Epilepsy association.

I'm sure that no matter what group you support they will appreciate it a whole lot.
