That is a good counterpoint Mitch. Perhaps in the medical field you don’t need to be purple (ie: wildly unique) but still can benefit by being remarkable (better in some way).

You know, I've read a couple of his books, and they are entertaining. The problem, and it's not his fault, is that in some industries being the purple cow isn't a good thing. For instance, my main industry, health care. It's tough enough being one of the few minorities trying to do what I do; that should make me stand out enough, but people tend to try to "not" look at me, which works against me. So I've thought about doing something to stand out from the crowd, but health care doesn't like to deal with people who don't conform just enough for their comfort. Other things I do, however, would work perfectly with this kind of thing I believe; but I work on balancing between industries for the moment, since health care pays the best.
